The La Graciosa ...experience

If you have ever wondered about being castaway on a desert island
then this is probably the closest you will come to the reality

La Graciosa island

The Isle of La Graciosa is only 27 square kilometres in size and forms part of the "Chinijo" Archipelago which includes the very minor Canary Islands: Alegranza, Roque del Oeste, Montana Clara and Roque del Este. La Graciosa is the smallest inhabited Canary Island. Access to the island is by ferry only from Orzola at the northernmost tip of Lanzarote.

The whole area has been declared a protected national park and henceforth there should be no uncontrolled tourist development. La Graciosa is an excellent escape from the modern day lifestyle we are used to in the UK. Here one can relax completely in a stress-free environment away from the traditional tourist resorts and pollution of traffic and industry. There are beautiful beaches of fine golden sand, solitary and peaceful, with the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The average yearly temperature is 22 degrees.

Caleta del Sebo is the only village on the island and boasts 500 inhabitants. The main occupation and means of subsistence is fishing but over the years a variety of services and facilities have developed. These include: two supermarkets, some restaurants and bars, a butcher, baker, pharmacy, bank, post office, church and police station. Medical assistance is also available.

La Graciosa beach

For the more energetic there is bicycle hire, scuba diving, and deep sea fishing. There are no made up roads and it is not possible to take a car on the ferry. It is possible to pay for a jeep with a driver on the island.
Places to visit on the island include the tiny beachside hamlet of Pedro Barba. Here there is a small beach, quayside and a number of houses used mainly by their owners. There is no shop or bar.
Across the other side of the island, a bike ride or long walk, there are the most beautiful beaches of Playa Lambra and Playa de Las Conchas.

The latter being probably the most beautiful unspoilt beach in the Canary Islands and must not be missed. If you are travelling by bicycle or on foot intending to be dropped at any of these locations it is essential that you take provisions, at least a drink, as there are no facilities anywhere away from the village. Closer to the village are the white sands of Playa Francesa and a number of smaller beaches are on the outskirts of Caleta del Sebo.

A WORD OF WARNING: A stay on La Graciosa is unlike an orthodox holiday. The facilities on the island are limited as is the travel to and fro. Sometimes, though not often, it may be necessary to make an overnight stay in Lanzarote due to flight, ferry or weather conditions. In these cases we will assist as far as is possible.

La Graciosa beach

A holiday on La Graciosa is for the more adventurous and is recommended only for seasoned travellers whom we are sure will find the experience very rewarding.
